Facelift surgery is one of the most commonly requested surgeries at the Sandel Duggal Center for Plastic Surgery in Annapolis. Our patients are concerned about the excess skin developing in the neck and the laxity of the skin showing up in the lower face. Jowls start to develop from loss of facial support over time. These aging characteristics can happen regardless of how healthy and active we are due to the effects of gravity and genetics.

Facelift procedures have advanced greatly over the past few years. No longer are we doing extended facelift procedures that can prolong recovery times and give patients a pulled or stretched appearance. The more advanced techniques we use today are much less invasive. Patients have minimal scars and downtimes are as little as 5 – 10 days. Results are natural and last for many years.

If you are considering a facelift in the Annapolis area, come in for a consultation to learn more about our process and techniques. We will spend as much time with you as needed to go over all of the options available to you to achieve the exceptional results you desire.

Pre-op Incision Planning

1 month after surgery

3 months after surgery

Facelift surgery is performed here at West Annapolis Surgery Center under light anesthesia. Once you are asleep, a local numbing medication is injected so that you are not stimulated or feel pain during the surgery. This allows the anesthesiologist to keep you lightly asleep and avoid giving a lot of narcotic pain medication that could prolong your recovery.

The procedure begins with an incision in the natural skin crease under the chin. The droopy muscle under the skin is tightened and the excess is removed. This gives great definition to the neck angle prior to lifting the skin. Next, incisions are made in the natural folds around the ear. They are placed inside the ear canal and into the hairline so the scar will not be visible after the procedure. The skin is raised gently and the muscle layer just under the skin is identified. This muscle layer is then lifted back into the correct position, thus defining the jawline and lifting the jowls. Correcting this muscle layer is the most important aspect of the surgery… as it creates long lasting results with a very natural appearance.

The incisions are then closed with fine sutures and/or metal clips to protect the hair follicles. The procedure should take about 2-3 hours, depending on the extent of the surgery.

After the surgery, our patients typically go home the same day. Or as many of our of town patients do, you may elect to stay overnight in our recovery suits. Patients will have a light cotton wrap around the face that stays in place overnight. The next day you will come down to the second floor where we will remove the wrap and teach you how to take care of your skin. Ice and head elevation with light activity is prescribed for the first week.In 7 days, patients will return to have their sutures removed. At this time, there will be some mild residual swelling and possibly bruising present. At 10 days, we offer a complimentary makeup session that will help you cover any bruising present. This will help get you back out in public without others noticing you had anything done.

We then follow up with you at 1 month, 3 months and 6 months to make sure that you are doing as well as we expect and are happy with your results.
